When Pima County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a traffic hazard call in the Foothills, they probably expected to find something that had fallen off of — or out of — a vehicle.

Instead they found something that likely looked like a moving speed bump to motorists — a large tortoise.

The slow-moving creature was found in the 5200 block of Via La Heroina, near East Sunrise Drive and North Sabino Canyon Road.

Deputies guided it to the patio of a nearby home, where they waited for a reptile rescue organization to take custody of the animal.

Animal rescue officials eventually returned the tortoise to its owner.
