A mountain lion was killed Thursday morning on Picture Rocks Road in Saguaro National Park West, park officials said.

The lion apparently died when it was hit by a vehicle, said Andy Fisher, public information officer for the park.

“It appeared to be a fairly healthy adult cat,” Fisher said. “It just didn’t make it across the road.”

She said officials had “no leads as to what happened or who was responsible.”

“We just want folks to slow down while traveling through the park,” Fisher said. “That’s the message.”
