A 63-year-old man died in a midtown motorcycle collision at South Alvernon Way and East Juarez Street on Sunday night.
John Howard was southbound in the center lane of Alvernon Way. A Pontiac Grand Am was in the left- turn lane of Juarez Street, when the driver made a U-turn in front of the motorcycle, causing the crash.
The area is just south of the intersection of East 22nd Street and Alvernon Way.
The driver of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet. Witnesses said the motorcycle was traveling near the speed limit. police said.
The Pontiac’s driver, a 16-year-old girl, was charged with one count of causing serious injury or death by a moving violation — a misdemeanor, Tucson police said in a news release.
It is the fourth motorcycle death this year.
