One night, Deniece Schofield sat straight up in bed and told her husband, Jim, that she had solved the problem of the board game clutter.
But “the big bugaboo,” says Jim, was laundry.
With four sons and one daughter in the house, Deniece began to do things in sequence. The kids learned they could only play with one thing at a time, and to put one toy away before another came out.
Everything in their home had a place, says Jim, and the kids could always find everything. He says organization has followed their five children into their own homes, and are now used with their 18 grandchildren.
“She wasn’t always this organized,” he says of his wife of 43 years, “she had to learn.”
What she learned from the years of trial and error convinced Jim his wife should write a book. Once he had talked her into it, the Schofields self-published her first book, “Confessions of an Organized Homemaker” in 1982.
Now the author of five books on home organizing, Deniece also passes along her knowledge in the form of lectures and seminars all over the country, traveling with her husband.
She will give a lecture in Tucson at 7-9 p.m. today at the Hampton Inn and Suites, 251 S. Wilmot Road.
