Change was in the air in South Tucson. Six candidates contended for three open seats on the South Tucson City Council, with newcomers Vanessa Mendoza and Oscar Patino securing two of the seats by garneing more than 50 percent of the vote.

Fellow newcomer Ildefonso Green appears to have moved on to the general election to contend for the third seat, while incumbents John Felix, who is Acting Mayor, Carlos Salaz and Vice Mayor Pete Tadeo all were within a few votes of one another.

Only one of the three will likely advance to the May 21 general election.
