A section of Silverbell Road that was washed away during a rainstorm is expected to reopen next week.

The portion of North Silverbell Road between West Sunset Road and Panorama Drive should open Wednesday, according to the Pima County Department of Transportation.

Storm water eroded the embankment and caused 300 feet of road to collapse during a monsoon storm on Sunday. The supporting soil washed out from under the road, causing the pavement to crack and portions of it to wash out.

County workers and contractors have repaired the embankment and will install a new cut-off wall on the east side of the road, which is expected to protect it from future erosion.

The repairs are expected to cost $200,000, not including utility work.
