East Glenn Street is closed on Tucson Medical Center's north side after a waterline broke and caused a sinkhole.

Glenn is closed between North Craycroft Road and North Wyatt Drive.

The street will be closed for at least a week while crews fix it, but access to the hospital and other businesses is open.

A detour through residential streets is available, but drivers may want to avoid the area by using East Grant Road or East Fort Lowell Road.

A 30-inch reclaimed-water pipe broke Thursday and water undermined some of the roadway, causing a 3-foot-wide sinkhole, so crews closed one lane of the road, said Tucson Water spokesman Fernando Molina.

But once excavation began, crews realized the extent of the damage was worse than originally thought and they closed the road completely for safety, he said.

On Monday crews were still trying to determine where the leak is located, Molina said.
