Democrat Ron Barber beat Republican Jesse Kelly in the Congressional District 8 special election.

With all the votes in Cochise, Pinal and Santa Cruz counties counted and nearly all of the early ballots in Pima County plus nearly 60 percent of its precincts from in-person voting tallied, Barber has a 7-point lead.

Barber has maintained 52 percent of the vote. Kelly is at 45 percent. Charlie Manolakis has two percent.

More than 179,000 votes have been counted, including roughly 147,000 early ballots. That’s 43 percent of all registered voters in the district.

Kelly conceded about 9:30 p.m. "This stinks,” he told a reporter. Kelly thanked Jesus, his family and volunteers. He then said he was headed home to go to bed.

Barber was about to give his victory speech just before 10 p.m.
