The longest-serving member of Pima Community College's Governing Board has won a fourth six-year term, official election results show.

Marty Cortez, who has held the board's District 5 seat for nearly two decades, was re-elected in a close contest.

Cortez took 43.2 percent of ballots cast, compared with 37.4 percent for second-place finisher Richard Fridena.

A third candidate, Francis Saitta, placed a distant third with 18.5 percent.

Cortez said she's humbled by the victory and plans to focus her efforts on "moving forward" after a year of controversy over the college's spending, procurement and personnel practices.

Cortez took 17,131 votes. A total of 22,190 votes were cast for her opponents - 14,846 for Fridena and 7,344 for Saitta.
