Longtime Tucson Convention Center deputy director Tommy Obermaier was fired Friday for what city officials charged were years of mismanagement of bookings at the facility costing the city hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The move concluded a five month investigation by the city into a long list of violations of policies concerning issues like double-booking events, mishandling contracts, loss of significant revenues.

The city initiated its investigation after a Pima County Sheriff's Department investigation over a possible conflict-of-interest violation by Obermaier for both promoting and booking an event at the TCC. Though the probe concluded Obermaier's actions were legal, it revealed several instances of potential administrative violations that the city wanted to probe.

What the city found was a trail of missing charges, unsigned contracts, double-bookings and other dubious practices that cost the city hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years.
