• Kitchen angel: Help keep a nonprofit agency's kitchen organized and sparkling. This volunteer position may require some food handling, including shelling pecans or washing and dehydrating jujube fruit. Volunteer for a one-time project, once or twice a month, or a few hours a week. Due to the monastic nature of the area in which this work is done, only women can volunteer.
• Exercise instructor assistant: Help make a difference in the lives of people with Parkinson's disease. Passionate, motivated volunteers are needed to assist instructors with exercise classes.
• Food bank van driver: Drivers pick up surplus food at various places, including the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona and schools, businesses and faith communities that have conducted food drives. This position involves lifting up to 50 pounds, so volunteers are paired so they can help one another lift and load items.
• Support group facilitator: Facilitate support groups for children, teens and adults whose lives have been affected by serious illness or death. Provide comfort and support through structured "talking circles," questions and activities. The time commitment is one or two weekday evenings each month. No experience is required but applicants must be at least 18, pass a background check and complete a comprehensive one-day volunteer training session.
