A fire broke out Wednesday night at the Flowing Wells Branch of the Pima County Public Library.

Motorists called 911 at 9:30 p.m. after seeing smoke at the library, 1730 W. Wetmore Road, said Capt. Adam Goldberg, a Northwest Fire District spokesman.

Firefighters arrived at the library within three minutes and crews climbed onto the roof, and also began cutting through drywall to reach the fire behind a stucco wall, Goldberg said.

The blaze was brought under control in 30 minutes, and about 30 firefighters remained at the scene late Wednesday night, said Goldberg.

The cause of the fire and damage estimates were yet to be determined.

Library patrons should call the library first to see if it will be closed Thursday, Goldberg said.

He said mostly smoke damage and some fire damage was found in the interior building.
