A fire broke out in a vacant midtown duplex late Sunday night, causing heavy damage to one of the apartments. Just before 10 p.m., several people called 911 to report a fire in an apartment in the 1900 block of South Montezuma Avenue, near South Alvernon Way and East 29th Street.
When Tucson fire crews arrived they reported seeing smoke coming from the eaves of the apartment which was boarded up and vacant, Capt. Barrett Baker, a Tucson fire spokesman said in a news release.
Crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the adjacent apartments and the fire was put out within 15 minutes, the release said.
Nobody was injured and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
This is the second time this year a fire has damaged a duplex at the same address. In May a fire caused $10,000 in damage to a duplex that was also vacant.
