1875: Pinal County is created by an act of the 8th Territorial Legislature from parts of Maricopa and Pima Counties.

1913: The Pima County Board of Supervisors authorizes the purchase of split logs to be placed with persons living along Speedway Boulevard so they would be handy for use after a hard rain to drag the road.

1935: The 3-million-pound gate at Boulder Dam is closed and Lake Mead begins to fill.

1954: Hadie Redd, the first African American player on the University of Arizona men's basketball team, scores 26 points to lead the Wildcats to an 87-74 upset of 17th-ranked Bradley University.

1956: Bill Reeves sets still-standing University of Arizona single-game rebounding record with 26 in 68-53 victory over UC-Santa Barbara.

1973: Due to construction delays, the UA Wildcats men's basketball team play their first game at McKale Center with just one month remaining in the season. Arizona defeats Wyoming, 87-69.
