1872: The town site of Phoenix, consisting of 380 acres, is officially filed in the U.S. Land Office.

1896: Fifty armed men gather at Bowie, to prevent the entry of prizefighters from Texas after a federal law was passed banning prizefights.

1913: The Arizona Mining Engineering Society is announced during a conference at the University of Arizona.
