TUSD Superintendent John Pedicone will donate his $35,000 bonus to the Educational Enrichment Foundation.
The TUSD Governing Board awarded Pedicone with the bonus Tuesday night, after renewing his contract.
The donation will go toward creating a fund to recognize students who demonstrate leadership skills and a sense of service.
“I look forward to being able to support students who display qualities that we value in young people,” Pedicone said.
The Educational Enrichment Foundation is an independent, community-based nonprofit organization that supports the students and teachers of the Tucson Unified School District.
Pedicone’s contract, which was set to expire June 30, 2013, was extended through June 30, 2014. It also raised his annual base salary from $205,000 to $211,000 plus benefits and allowances.
The bonus is considered to be performance pay that is withheld from Pedicone’s contract annually pending a Governing Board evaluation.
Last year, the Board awarded Pedicone $30,000 in performance pay, but he elected to funnel that money back into the district’s general fund.
