Green Fields Country Day School has partnered with a Southern Arizona farm to provide baskets of freshly picked fruit, vegetables and herbs.
The program is open to the public, with members paying about $25 a week for the produce basket, which has a retail value of $25 to $35.
The baskets will be brought to the Green Fields campus, 6000 N. Camino de la Tierra, for pickup, with the school receiving 10 percent of the proceeds.
"This is a perfect fit for Green Fields," said Becky Cordier, the head of the school. "We want to encourage healthy eating for our families and neighbors and are committed to supporting locally sourced food and sustainable farming."
The northwest-side school already raises herbs and other produce in a greenhouse, and the third-grade class raises chickens and sells the eggs.
Students also run a small farmers market on the first Friday of each month, donating proceeds to benefit local charities they select.
The produce will be grown at Sleeping Frog Farms - located in the Cascabel corridor of the San Pedro River Valley - using environmentally sound and desert-conscious practices.
The deadline to enroll in the program is Jan. 15.
The total cost is $325, which can be paid in one or two installments.
