An Amphitheater Public Schools Governing Board member who recently resigned from the board has died.
Jeff Grant died Sunday, just a few days after he resigned from the Governing Board for health reasons, according to an Amphitheater Public Schools news release.
Grant, who was battling cancer, served on the board for more than 10 years.
He was elected to the board in 2002 and served on site-based governance councils at Copper Creek Elementary and Wilson K-8 schools before joining the school board. He was also a member of the district's budget advisory committee.
"Jeff was a true advocate for children, for education and for his community. His guidance, wisdom, friendship and sense of humor will be sorely missed," Amphitheater Superintendent Patrick Nelson said in a statement.
Grant served as a youth sports coach for more than 20 years, coaching soccer, Little League baseball and basketball.
He worked in human resources for 35 years before retiring.
Funeral services are pending.
