The Arizona Board of Regents wants to know what you think about a proposal to increase in-state base tuition and fees 22 percent next year at the University of Arizona.

At a hearing tonight on campus, the regents will hear from students and others about the proposed price tags of $10,027 for Arizona residents and $25,487 for students from other states and countries.

Some students on campus said they have decided to borrow more money to make up the difference. Others said they will work longer hours or apply for more scholarships to cover the expense.

"I think it's crazy. The fees we already pay are phenomenal, and I think in-state (tuition) is too high. ... I went to Pima Community College first ... then to come here and have tuition six or seven times as much is outrageous. ... Next year I'll probably have to take out a bigger loan," said Rain Borchardt, a junior studying special education

"I'll probably have to get another loan and ask my mom to get a loan, which sucks because I don't think she should have to get a loan for my education," said Jazmine Cañez, a junior in Mexican-American studies
