The Arizona Board of Regents is debating higher tuition rates for public universities.
The board is expected to release tuition and fee proposals from Arizona’s three public university presidents on Friday.
The board will hold a public hearing on the proposals on March 27 via videoconference at Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University and University of Arizona campuses across the state.
The board is expected to set final tuition and fee rates for the 2013 academic year during an April 4 meeting.
Since 2007, tuition and fees for Arizona’s public university students have gone up by up to 96 percent.
Meanwhile, university presidents are also considering tuition breaks for some illegal immigrants under the Obama administration’s deferred-deportation program.
Illegal immigrants attending Arizona public universities are charged more than state residents.
