Three UA faculty members will combine forces Tuesday for a unique performance at Academy Village featuring clarinet, horn and piano.

Jerry Kirkbride on clarinet, Daniel Katzen on horn and Rex Woods on piano are well-known and popular performers at Academy Village. They have appeared frequently in various chamber groups and with their music studio students. However, this will be a premier performance for this particular grouping, which has yet to give itself a name.

Kirkbride performed for many years in the New York City area before joining the Dorian Wind Quintet, with which he toured extensively for 42 years in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. He joined the UA faculty in 1987.

Katzen played horn for the Boston Symphony Orchestra for 29 years and taught at the New England Conservatory of Music and Boston University. "Retiring" to warmer climates, he joined the University of Arizona faculty in 2008. As a recitalist, chamber musician, clinician and soloist, Katzen has appeared throughout the U.S. and 22 countries in more than 5,000 performances and master classes.

Woods is best known to regional audiences as a soloist and chamber musician, including concerto performances with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra and duo piano recitals with fellow faculty member Paula Fan. He joined the UA faculty in 1988.

The trio will perform music written specifically for clarinet, horn and piano. The concert will be repeated at Holsclaw Hall on the UA campus at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Music includes a trio in B flat by Carl Reinecke, "Suite" by Alec Wilder, and "Trio" by George Rochberg.

The free performance is sponsored by the Arizona Senior Academy.
