As tunes by the Beach Boys, Frank Sinatra and even Colbie Caillat played, a roomful of seniors worked out during the Enhance Fitness program at the William Clements Recreation Center.
The program, which is through the Pima Council on Aging, is aimed at improving the health, appearance and well-being of older adults.
"I love the people and the atmosphere of the classes," said instructor Ellie Kidder, 23, who has been teaching the class for a year-and-a-half. The Clements Center is at 8155 E. Poinciana Drive.
After a warmup, the group usually does a cardio, strength and balance workout.
"Everyone is here to feel better and healthier," Kidder said.
Participants Barbara Pavelka, 74, and Gail Sebastian, 69, would agree.
"I like dancing - it is the easy part of the workout," said Pavelka, who has participated in the program for 10 months. "The beat of the music makes it very fun."
Sebastian said she enjoys the program because "there are people you meet in the classes that you would never meet anywhere else."
She prefers the chair exercises.
"It helps me with balance and it keeps your muscles going," she said, adding that it's important to do all the exercises to be well-rounded.
"And," Pavelka quipped, "we are all well-rounded."
