A video that police say shows off-duty Pima County corrections officers beating a man outside a Tucson bar Sept. 19 was released Wednesday by the Tucson Police Department.
The video was taken by a surveillance camera at The Buffet bar, 538 E. Ninth St., police said.
According to Sgt. Chris Widmer, a police spokesman:
The video shows corrections officers coming out of The Buffet about 2 a.m. and roughhousing among themselves before what police have called a brutal, unprovoked attack on a man who was attempting to unlock his bike. During the investigation, police learned that four people were eventually attacked, including a teenager.
Seven corrections officers were arrested, five in connection with the attack itself. Two, including a sergeant, were accused of hindering prosecution.
All seven have now been fired by the Pima County Sheriff's Department, a department spokes-man, Deputy Tom Peine, said Wednesday night. The officers fired were Sgt. Yvonne Davis, 33; Mark Bret, 23; Anthony Bonfiglio, 25; Matthew Garcia, 24; John Hyatt, 30; Angel Castaneda, 23; and Steven Haglund, 26.
At least 12 off-duty corrections officers were at the bar before the attack, police said. The investigation is ongoing, but no more arrests are expected, Widmer said.
