A 24-year-old woman walking along the easement of a road on the Tucson's west side was killed Wednesday night when she was struck by a speeding pickup truck, police say.
Antonia Calamia was walking with north with traffic on North Greasewood Road near West Speedway about 11:30 p..m. when she was hit by a burgundy colored Chevrolet or GMC pickup as it sped past another car, Sgt. Chris Widmer said in a news release. The area is near the Pima Community College west campus.
The driver of the truck fled the crash scene.
The driver of the car that the truck passed told police he drove into the southbound lane of traffic when he spotted the truck speeding toward him from behind and was worried about being hit. The truck swerved into the easement as it passed, striking Calamia, Widmer said.
Damage to the pickup truck will possibly include a broken passenger side headlight and damage to the front grill.
