Tucson police ended a search for a shooter shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of East 31st Street and South Irving Avenue.

Police began investigating shots being fired in the area, which is east of Alvernon Way and south of East 29th Street, about 4 p.m.

The shooter was not found.

Police don’t know where the shots came from, but officers reported hearing several shots pass over their heads while they were in the area.

Sgt. Maria Hawke, a Tucson Police Department spokeswoman, said that the patience of area residents was appreciated as officers "worked to ensure that there was no continuing threat in the neighborhood."
