A 15-year-old boy was shot to death by a Tombstone marshal's deputy early Saturday after deputies say he was caught breaking into a home.

The Marshal's Office received a 911 call about 4:40 a.m. from a resident who said someone was trying to break in, a Cochise County Sheriff's Office news release said.

The deputy who went to the home encountered the teenager, who had a gun, authorities said. The deputy shot and fatally wounded him.

The teen's name was not released.

"It is a tragedy that we are experiencing so many deaths and/or injuries involving law enforcement in Cochise County within such a short amount of time," said interim Cochise County Sheriff Rod Rothrock in a prepared statement.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the families affected by this latest incident, and the Sheriff's Office will work quickly and thoroughly to bring closure to this investigation."
