A Tucson man suspected in the shooting death of his girlfriend has been arrested in Los Angeles.
Stephen J. Malone, 29, was arrested Wednesday, a day after 25-year-old Augustina Soto was shot and killed in a car on Tucson's south side, Deputy Tracy Suitt, spokesman for the Pima County Sheriff's Department, said in a news release.
The victim and suspect "were in a domestic relationship" and had three children, Suitt said. Two of the children - ages 4 and 5 - were in the back seat of the car Tuesday night when Soto was shot. The children were unharmed.
Also in the car was a woman who sustained a non-life-threatening injury.
Deputies responding to a report of gunshots at about 8:40 p.m. Tuesday found Soto dead in the driver's seat of a car parked in the 4900 block of East Butterweed Drive, southwest of East Valencia Road and Interstate 10.
Malone will remain jailed in Los Angeles pending extradition, Suitt said.
