A man who tried to boost a basketful of meat from a Tucson store left empty-handed after a tussle with a store manager, officials say.

The failed steak heist happened at the Walmart Neighborhood Market at 2823 W. Valencia Road about 9:15 p.m. Sept. 26, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said in a news release Thursday.

A store manager confronted the man as he made a dash for the exit with a booty of beef worth about $150. The men had a brief altercation and an apparent getaway driver helped in the fight before the pair escaped.

Surveillance photos of the man were released Thursday as deputies hope to collar the beef bandit.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88CRIME, the anonymous tipster line.
