An altercation between two groups led to a shooting Thursday night that left one man dead and another in critical condition, officials said.

Tucson police responded to 911 calls to the 1100 block of East 32nd Street where they found a group of people standing in the road and a 22-year-old male lying on the ground, according to a news release.

Rescue personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene. Authorities did not release his name pending family notification.

During the investigation, police were informed that a second shooting victim, a 24-year-old male, was taken to a nearby hospital in a private vehicle. Due to the severity of his injuries he was transferred to the trauma center at University of Arizona Medical Center where he remains in critical condition, officials said.

Police believe the shootings may be gang related. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
