A 16-year-old girl died Sunday as a result of a golf cart crash in San Tan Valley, about 10 miles southeast of Chandler.
Julieann Arancel was one of nine teens riding in a modified, lifted golf cart that rolled over Saturday night when the driver tried to make a right turn, Tim Gaffney, a spokesman for the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, said in a news release.
Arancel was standing near the driver when the cart rolled over. She fell and hit her head on the asphalt, and the vehicle landed on her, the release said.
She was taken to Banner Ironwood Medical Center where she died early Sunday.
One of the teens took the golf cart without permission because her father was out of town, and the group rode in the vehicle to a nearby Sonic, the release said.
Authorities said alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash. The Pinal County Attorney's Office will review the case.
