An 80-year-old man was killed while crossing a street in central Tucson Sunday morning.

The victim was identified as Hai T. Ting, said Sgt. Chris Widmer, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.

Shortly before 8 a.m., police were called to the scene at East 22nd Street and South Longfellow Avenue, just east of South Alvernon Way, Widmer said. Ting was taken to a hospital, where he later died, Widmer said.

The driver and passenger of a 1993 Nissan truck that struck Ting were not injured.

Investigators said the truck was headed west on 22nd Street, and Ting was crossing north on 22nd Street at Longfellow Avenue, when he stepped into traffic. No citations were issued.
