A 55-year-old man was struck and killed as he tried to cross North Campbell Avenue early Friday evening.

Tucson police were called to the scene, near North Campbell Avenue and East Limberlost Drive, at 6:25 p.m., police spokesman Sgt. Chris Widmer said.

Widmer said a 2005 Ford Mustang was traveling north on Campbell in the curb lane, about a block north of Limberlost, when the accident occurred.

The pedestrian was apparently trying to cross Campbell from east to west in an area that has no crosswalk or traffic light. He was struck immediately after he stepped off the curb on the east side of the road, Widmer said.

The two adults in the Mustang were not injured.

Police on Friday night did not release the name of the man who died, and Widmer said it's unknown whether any citations will be issued.
