An Oro Valley police officer was placed on administrative leave after he was cited for theft from a Walmart, authorities said.
Mario Molina, a seven-year veteran of the department, was implicated in a theft Tuesday at the Walmart at Oro Valley Marketplace, said Lt. Kara Riley, an Oro Valley Police Department spokeswoman.
Police investigating a theft at the store received information about another theft that implicated Molina, who was on-duty, Riley said.
Oro Valley police contacted the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and asked them to investigate the incident, Riley said.
On Wednesday, sheriff’s investigators met with Molina, and recovered the stolen property, said Riley.
Riley said she did not have information on what was recovered.
Molina was cited and released for misdemeanor theft by sheriff deputies, said Riley.
The Oro Valley Police Department has begun an internal investigation into the matter, Riley said.
