Tucson police are looking for a man who tried to kidnap a woman near the University of Arizona on Sunday morning.

The incident happened near North Third Avenue and East Second Street around 9:15 a.m., Tucson police said.

A man in a vehicle approached a woman on foot and asked her for directions, and he also offered her money to guide him, police said.

The woman refused and the man drove away, but shortly afterward she was approached by the man on foot, who spoke to her and then picked her up and started to carry her into an alley, police said.

The woman began screaming, and the man dropped her and ran away. She was not hurt.

The man was described as being between 30 and 40 years old, standing 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium build, graying black hair, blue eyes and an unkempt beard, police said.

Anyone with information about the man is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME (882-7463).
