A man killed himself after an hours long SWAT situation on Tucson’s northwest side.

The incident started around 11:30 p.m. Thursday when a woman called 911 to report that her ex-boyfriend was suicidal and was threatening to burn his house down and shoot himself, said Deputy Tom Peine a Pima County Sheriff’s Department spokesman.

The woman was not at the home, but was on the phone with the man, Peine said. Deputies responded to the home in the 5000 block of Nighthawk Way, and saw that there was a minor fire in the house, Peine said.

Deputies called crews from Northwest fire, but the fire died out before they arrived. Another woman had escaped from the home and said the man restrained her and threatened her, Peine said.

The SWAT team was called to the home to help negotiate with the man, but they were unable to establish contact with him.

Friday morning, SWAT officers sent a robot into the home and the man was found dead in the home.
