A man accused in a deadly drug deal was sentenced to 7½ years in prison on Tuesday.

Pima County Superior Court Judge Scott Rash sentenced Kristin Olea after a plea agreement in which the defendant pleaded guilty to illegally conducting an enterprise and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault.

Olea, 26, and two other men were accused of arranging a drug deal in May 2011 that left Javier Bejarano, 22, dead.

Prosecutors said, on the night of the incident, Olea planned with Bejarano to set up a marijuana buy for the other men, with plans to then steal the drugs from them.

As Bejarano attempted to take the marijuana, however, one of the other men shot and killed him.

The other defendants have already been sentenced, one who pleaded guilty to negligent homicide.

Olea will also be on five years’ probation after he has finished serving his prison term.
