A 58-year-old man died after being struck by a car while crossing a north-side street Monday evening.

The crash happened around 6:45 p.m. when the man was crossing West Fort Lowell Road near North Castro Avenue and was struck by a blue 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser headed west on Fort Lowell Road in the median lane, Sgt. Maria Hawke, a spokeswoman for the Tucson Police Department said in a news release.

The man was taken to the hospital where he died, the release said.

The man was crossing in an area with no street lights and was wearing dark clothing, the release said.

The pedestrian has not been identified.

The driver of the PT Cruiser remained at the scene and was cooperative with police.
