Marana police: Man posed as firefighter
Marana police arrested a man Wednesday afternoon, saying he impersonated a public servant by posing as a firefighter at the funeral for a member of the ill-fated Granite Mountain Hotshot crew.
During the funeral procession for William Warneke, 25 - one of 19 firefighters who died June 30 while battling the Yarnell Hill Fire near Prescott - a police officer took notice of James Patrick Brown, 49, said Sgt. Jose Alvarez, spokesman for the Marana Police Department.
Brown was in a restricted area of the procession and was wearing a Tucson Fire Department T-shirt and hat. He had in his possession badges from the TFD and the Wickenburg Fire Department, Alvarez said. He said Brown falsely told the police officer he worked in TFD fleet services and was authorized to be in the procession.
Brown was booked into the Pima County jail on one count of impersonating a public servant. He also had an outstanding felony warrant for theft issued out of Maricopa County.
The investigation is ongoing to determine how Brown came into possession of the badges, Alvarez said.
Child porn charges filed vs. Tucson man
A 52-year-old man was arrested Thursday for possession of child pornography, police said.
Anthony Dimatteo is facing 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, said Sgt. Chris Widmer, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.
He was booked into the Pima County jail.
In February, Microsoft contacted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about a Tucson-area user storing child pornography to its servers, said Widmer.
Detectives from the Internet Crimes Against Children's Unit investigated and found that the user lived in the 4900 block of East Butterweed Drive, said Widmer.
The neighborhood is south of East Valencia Road and east of South Swan Road.
Detectives, with help from the U.S. Marshals Service, served a warrant at the house and found evidence that Dimatteo was in possession of child pornography, Widmer said.
