A 35-year-old man who shot a woman walking her dog in 2010 was sentenced in Pima County Superior Court Thursday to 7 1/2 years in the Arizona State Hospital.
Ronald Michael Motisko pleaded guilty but insane to two counts of aggravated assault in February

Under his
plea agreement, Motisko will be sent to the mental hospital and will be under the jurisdiction of the Arizona State Psychiatric Review Board, which could choose to send him to prison or release him from custody if he no longer requires treatment.
On March 1, 2010, a woman walking her dog in the 12600 block of East Los Reales Road was found lying in the road with a gunshot wound, court documents released Wednesday said.
She survived but could not identify the shooter, and a bullet was not found at the scene.
On Jan. 12, 2012, Motisko turned himself in to the Pima County Sheriff's Department and confessed.
Motisko said he was at the gym the day of the shooting and was harassed by other people at the gym. He said he then went home and got his father's .240-caliber rifle and got in his truck intending to kill the first person he saw, court documents said. Motisko said he heard voices and wanted them to stop, the documents said.
When he saw the woman, he shot her once in the back, then drove home and put the rifle back where he found it.
Motisko suffers from auditory hallucinations and paranoia and was hospitalized several times for psychotic symptoms, the document said.
