Dora Lizet Miranda,, 33, of Tucson, was sentenced to three years' probation Monday for stealing more than $1,400 in jewelry and cash from the stroke victim she was caring for.
On Jan. 20, 2012, the husband of a 59-year-old wheelchair-bound stroke victim called police when he noticed rings and cash missing from his home. He confronted his wife's caregiver, Miranda, who denied stealing anything and fled, court documents state.
She later admitted to police she pawned the rings; they were recovered.
Miranda was indicted on one count of trafficking in stolen property and one count of theft. She pleaded guilty to theft/financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult.
Pima County Superior Court Judge Casey McGinley also ordered Miranda to pay $500 to the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit of the Arizona Attorney General's Office and told her she can't work for any vulnerable adult while on probation.
