A fire broke out in a tattoo parlor in a midtown strip mall early Friday morning.

Crews from Tucson Fire Department responded to the blaze around 4:45 a.m. after a passerby called 911 to report smoke coming out from the front of the shop at 3455 E. Speedway, near Palo Verde Boulevard, Capt. Jeff Langejans, a TFD spokesman in a news release.

The glass front door was broken and the sprinklers were on when crews arrived. Nobody was inside the business.

It took 16 minutes for 23 firefighters to control the blaze which caused about $20,000 in damage.

Investigators are working to determine what caused the fire and whether someone broke in to the business.
