A former Customs and Border Protection officer was found guilty of drug charges by a federal jury in Tucson on Thursday.

Luis Vasquez, 33, of Douglas, will remain in custody until his sentencing, which is scheduled for April 29.

He was found guilty of conspiracy to import marijuana, unlawful importation of marijuana, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute marijuana and possession with the intent to distribute marijuana.

Vasquez used his position as a CBP inspector at the Douglas Port of Entry to allow more than 1,200 pounds of marijuana into the United States, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.

He is facing a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison and/or a $5 million fine.
