An 18-year-old man died at a hospital after being shot early Monday morning in midtown Tucson.

The man, who died just before noon, was identified as Ricky Campbell, said Sgt. Chris Widmer, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.

Police were called to the 5700 block of East 28th Street, near South Craycroft Road and East 29th Street, around 12:30 a.m. after a 911 caller reported a shooting, said Widmer.

Officers stopped two vehicles leaving the area and found one man with gunshot wounds in each car, Widmer said.

Paramedics took the men to the hospital.

In addition to Campbell, a 25-year-old man, who was also shot, remained in stable condition, Widmer said.

One of the people involved in the shooting has gang affiliations. The gang unit, which handles gang-related homicides, is conducting the investigation, Widmer said.

Detectives have questioned occupants in both vehicles.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
