A Mexican man was arrested Sunday for attempting to smuggle more than $175,000 in unreported U.S. currency into Mexico through the Dennis DeConcini Port of Entry in Nogales, officials said.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers conducting inspections on vehicles leaving the U.S. selected a Mercedes sedan driven by Samir Alexander Lara-Ambriz, 29, of Nogales, Sonora, for further inspection.

During the search, officers found a concealed compartment containing 14 packages of U.S. currency. The vehicle and cash were seized. Lara was arrested.
