NACO, Ariz. — A Border Patrol agent who was wounded in a shooting near the U.S.-Mexico border has been released from the hospital.

The agent underwent surgery after he and two other agents were attacked Tuesday in a rugged hilly area about five miles north of the border. They were responding to an alarm triggered on a border sensor near Bisbee, Ariz.

Agent Nicholas Ivie was killed. The agent who was hospitalized had been shot in the ankle and buttocks.

The third agent wasn’t injured.

Investigators who are scouring the area near the shooting haven’t yet found a gun in their search, a federal law enforcement official who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The official requested anonymity because information on the search hasn’t been publicly released.
