A Mexican national was arrested for attempting to smuggle $302,800 in unreported U.S. currency into Mexico, authorities said.

The 54-year-old man was taken into custody Saturday at the Dennis DeConcini port of entry by federal officers, said Juan Osorio,a Customs and Border Protection spokesman.

Authorities conducting outbound inspections selected a Jeep SUV, driven by Elifonso Pillado Sanchez, for further inspection, Osorio said.

A CBP canine alerted officers to the unreported money hidden in the vehicle’s roof hatch, said Osorio. The vehicle and cash were seized.
