A fair on Saturday to help youths apply for deferred action is being hosted by the Mexican Consulate in Tucson and the local chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Associations.

The Mexican Consulate has helped more than 700 youths fill out their deferred-action applications since last November, when the federal government started to accept them, officials said.

Last year, the Obama administration announced that youths brought to the country illegally by their parents could apply to be able to stay in the country without the fear of deportation and for a work permit renewable every two years.

As of the end of January, more than 14,000 youths have applied in Arizona out of more than 400,000 nationwide.

The fair will start at 10 a.m. at the Most Holy Trinity Church, 1300 N. Greasewood Road.

Phone the consulate's call center at 1-877-632-6678 to schedule an appointment.
