U.S. Customs and Border Protection has tabbed a 21-year-veteran of the Border Patrol to oversee and coordinate the Arizona operations of three agency branches.
The agency made the appointment of Jeffrey Self as Commanader of the Arizona Joint Field Command official today. The position is new for the Department of Homeland Security, putting for the first time one person in charge of the Border Patrol’s Tucson and Yuma Sectors, the Custom and Border Protection Office of Field Operation’s Tucson Field Office and the Custom and and Border Protection Office of Air and Marine’s Yuma and Tucson Air Branches, according to a press release.
The Joint Field Command is housed in Tucson at S. Swan Road and Golf Links Road in the same complex as the Border Patrol’s Tucson Sector offices.
The center “complements the Department of Homeland Security’s unprecedented investments in border security by expanding coordination and bringing greater unity to enforcement efforts,” the press release says.
