Results posted early Sunday showed Democrat Ron Barber leading in his race to win a full term in Arizona's 2nd Congressional District.

Barber, the handpicked successor to former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, pulled ahead of Republican Martha McSally by 289 votes out of more than 250,000 cast in the race for the U.S. House seat. The district covers parts of Pima and all of Cochise County. Pima County expected no additional vote tallies Sunday, and Cochise County officials were unavailable.

Pima County had about 33,000 ballots overall left to count on Sunday.

Maricopa County still had 322,000 early and provisional ballots to count.
