Baby's body found at recycling plant
YUMA - Somerton police are awaiting autopsy results for a baby whose body was found at the city's recycling plant.
Officer Ed Quintero told the Yuma Sun that workers found the body in a plastic bag Thursday.
Quintero said police need autopsy results to learn the cause of death as well as the baby's age and sex.
DuVal takes first step to run for governor
Fred DuVal, a former Arizona Board of Regents member with deep roots in Democratic Party politics, is now formally exploring a 2014 candidacy for governor.
DuVal Thursday filed paperwork Thursday with the Secretary of State's Office to set up an exploratory committee.
DuVal served as a top aide and adviser to Bruce Babbitt both during Babbitt's terms as Arizona governor and his unsuccessful campaign for the 1988 Democratic nomination for president.
He served in the administration of President Bill Clinton and was appointed by then-Gov. Janet Napolitano to the regents.
DuVal has also served as a Democratic National Committee member for Arizona.
Manager: Pinal must handle money better
CASA GRANDE - Pinal County has the second-highest primary property tax rate in Arizona, so it needs to watch where it s revenue goes, County Manager Fritz Behring said.
He said Pinal must manage its money better if it wants to become competitive with Arizona's other 14 counties on property taxes.
The Casa Grande Dispatch said a recent audit of the county's jail contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement found Pinal lost about $12 million in general fund money in five years.
Behring said that's just one glaring example of issues that have haunted Pinal County government for years including corruption, nepotism and a general lack of accountability among employees.
Since he was hired in November 2010, he said the county has stressed hiring the most qualified people and not the most connected.
